Project upgrade from v3.1.2 to 7

Hi

We've upgraded an old project to v7. We have multiple projects that reference a common header and had instructions on how to include the header (please see attachment). My question - how would we replicate this in v7?

Hi kidder,

The basic approach to configure multi-project applications remains the same, but some of the options and settings may be in different locations.
One of the main changes is that local 'deployment' is now referred to as 'testing', and is now configured via the Test Settings menu option.

The rough steps in v7 to replicate what you were doing would be:

  • Add the partial page container to your page like before[/*]
  • Click on the page background (or the page properties button) and then use the Events tab to add the onload event to load in the header[/*]
  • Use the Run Test link to 'deploy' this project[/*]
  • In the header project, use the Test Settings option, and change the directory name under Location Details to the value from your main project[/*]
  • Perform a Run Test of the header project[/*]
  • Go back to the main project, perform a Run Test, and you should find the header is correctly pulled in.[/*]

Thanks Gerard - this is what I thought, but thought it worth double checking.

We also used to adjust the view-Page-Painter by going to Deploy > All Details tab > Advanced Deployment > view-Page-Painter set it to WebApplication and adjust the path there too. This is now under Agent Types I think - is this still necessary?

Yes those advanced deployment options are now found under Agent Types, but you no longer need to do the specific Web Application step for your scenario.

Changing the directory name on the Location Details section should set all the required location paths accordingly.
