For full details of the release please read: WebMaker V8 Release Notes (pdf)
Important Note: WebMaker 8 does not yet support Microsoft Edge Browser. For Windows 10 any of the other standards based Browsers can be used (Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer). It is planned to be addressed with a patch when Edge is more stable.
- Improved Editors - The studio has been extended with enhanced editors, providing a better authoring environment for many different file types, including XML, CSS and Javascript. These editors provide much faster editing and 'as-you-type' syntax helpers. The editors are now available in all locations where there is a need to author code fragments, including Script, SQL, etc.
[/*] - CSS Palettes with real-time Browser Details - The CSS Palettes have been improved to use the style information for controls from the actual browser settings, instead of relying on the standard classes in the underlying theme.css file alone. This means that any bespoke styles within CSS classes will be reflected against controls as they are applied. If users use their own CSS classes, they will see the appropriate information.
[/*] - Simplified Rules - The Rules have been improved to remove the priorities when forward chaining is off (default). The copying and moving of rules, actions and conditions has been improved. Greater consistency has been applied for the from and to parameters to better assist first time users.
[/*] - Improved Studio Drag and Drop - The Page and Field-level events and Rules have been improved to allow simple drag and drop actions for re-ordering. This replaces the old method of reordering using arrows. This also allows entire blocks, such as Event IF THEN blocks, or entire rules to be moved or copied with ease. Pressing 'Ctrl' and dragging will create a copy.
[/*] - Control-based Theme Model CSS - A new Theme based CSS has been developed, with styling rules oriented around each control in an isolated manner. This will allow easier identification of classes that impact each control independently. The control disabling styles have been simplified, so that specific classes are no longer required as standard disable styling has been introduced across all controls.
The styling information for all controls now resides within the same CSS file, even for complex controls, allowing new themes to be developed without having to reference multiple files.
[/*] - New Themes - The 'demo.css' file has been replaced by new 'theme.css' files, which reside under specific theme directories. This change will be automatically applied as part of the project upgrade process for WebMaker V8.
[/*] - Improved Control UI Capabilities - All controls have been enhanced to provide more modern visual control options. It is possible to add Placeholder text, and an icon image to the left or right of the control. A set of simple pre-defined icons are available for selection. A new feedback icon capability has been added to show an icon to indicate success or errors. There is a new page level error "message bubble" capability, which automatically displays messages next to fields containing errors.
These improvements should enable users to simply click to enable capabilities seen in modern frameworks such as Semantic-UI, Bootstrap, Angular UI, etc.[/*]
