This announcement covers considerations for installing WebMaker Studio onto a Windows 8 based machine.
It can be installed onto a Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro version that supports a traditional 'Desktop'.
It can operate with Internet Explorer 10 in both modes of use (Tiled and Dektop interfaces).
The Windows RT (ARM based) version can not be used.
Note: WebMaker Version 3.* and 4 do not currently fully support touch interface for all WebMaker screens.
Windows 8 Installation Considerations
This section covers some important considerations specifically for Windows 8, so it should be read prior to following the standard documentation steps (link provided at the base of this page).
The WebMaker installation package should contain a single file named +?+?++MVC_WebMaker_m-n_Enterprise.exe+?+?+?, where +?+?++m+?+?+? and +?+?++n+?+?+? denote major and minor version numbers.
You must right click on this file and select the 'Run as Administrator' option to start the installation process and follow the on-screen instructions.
A window will pop-up with a warning about the Publisher is 'Unknown'.
You will need to click the 'More Info ' link and then click the 'Run anyway' in order to install WebMaker Studio.
Java Installation
The WebMaker Installer and WebMaker Studio requires Java.
If you do not have Java installed a window will ask you to install Java, and redirect you to the Java website.
Once Java is installed you can restart the Installer by right-clicking the Run as Administrator option.
Internet Explorer 10 Settings
Intranet Settings...
Once the installer has completed and the first WebMaker screen appears in the Internet Explorer 10 Browser, you will likely be prompted with a warning message 'Intranet settings are turned off by default'.
You should select to switch on Intranet Settings, as WebMaker Studio will run as a http://localhost web application.
If you press the 'Don't show the message again' link, then you will need to click the 'Leave this Page' option.
Note: If you don't switch the Intranet Settings on then some parts of the WebMaker Studio could be blocked from popping up correctly.
Intranet Site Settings...
Before using WebMaker it is important to check that the browser is configured correctly.
Select the Internet Options >> Local Intranet option. Click on the Sites button.
If the 'Automatically detect intranet 'sites'' is ticked then click the Advanced option. Either add the URL: http://localhost , or untick the option and tick the three other nested options.
Opening Tab Settings...
It is recommended that you allow IE to control how tabs are opened.
Select the Internet Options >> Programs Tab option.
For the Opening Internet Explorer field select the 'Let Internet Explorer Decide' option.
Publisher Security Checks...
The WebMaker Studio uses a couple of Java Applets to allow users to select files from their local machine when required.
These screens are used when you want to add external files to the WebMaker repository.
If these screens are used the user will see a Publisher "UNKNOWN" message when the Java Applet is run.
You should click the 'I accept the risk & want to run the application', then check the Run button if you want to use these helper features.
Remove Uninstaller from New Windows 8 tiled display
By default some new programs installed on Windows 8 will appear on the new tiled interface.
You can choose to remove the 'WebMaker Uninstaller' by right-clicking on the tile and clicking the 'Unpin from Start' option.
Using WebMaker with IE10
It has been identified that there is an intermittent issue with the use of the double-click rename option on the WebMaker 'Application Map' screen.
We recommend that if this occurs, that you should use the right-click rename option instead.
